The Hermione Construction Project

The Hermione in 2014: the year of the greatest challenges!

Come and see the Hermione in water in its new dock!

An amazing challenge!

In the centre of the former Rochefort Arsenal, just steps away from the Corderie Royale, discover and be part of this dockyard spectacle, a unique experience in France: the Hermione construction project. The project site represents an incredible technical and human challenge: to reconstruct a wooden ship using all the original shipbuilding techniques, and then, once the frigate is completed, to sail in it across the Atlantic to Boston, just as Lafayette did in 1780…
65 metres long, with 3 masts, you can observe in real time, the work of the carpenters, woodworkers and blacksmiths…

More activities after the visit

To go home with a souvenir of this magnificent construction project, don’t forget to pay a visit to the Hermione Shop. Then, with your imagination fired with a sense of adventure, take a pleasant walk through the gardens of the Corderie Royale along the banks of the Charente River.

Tour of the Ship
The construction site is open to visitors every day so that you can see the artisans at work.
Guided tours lasting 1hr15 minutes are available every day. As these tours are limited to a maximum of 18 people, it is essential to pre-book in advance on line: hermione.com or at the Hermione construction site ticket office (subject to availability).
Children under 6 are not admitted and people who wish to take the tour must be physically mobile.
