The historic site of the Abbaye aux Dames is a haven of peace and quiet in the heart of the city. The Notre Dame abbey church is a jewel of Romanesque architecture in the Saintonge. Its doorway is richly decorated with an abundance of fauna. You can visit the bell tower which is built in the shape of a pine cone and is covered with stone chippings.
