The Major national sites!

The quality label ‘Grand site’, is a symbol of national recognition and is attributed by the Environment ministry. It responds to a desire to restore and enhance the quality of the landscape of the selected sites, which are of an incontestable cultural value. In Charente-Maritime, there are two sites that correspond perfectly to these criteria, guaranteeing an unforgettable visit.

Brouage

The site is remarkable for its military architecture, bearing witness to the importance of Brouage in the 17th century. The town knew a glorious commercial and military past. A town that also links two continents, maintaining very tight links with New France, founded in North America in the 17th century.

The Poitevin Marsh

The Poitevin Marsh, an interregional park, covers some 100,000 hectares between the north of Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres and Vendée. A man-made marsh, the site combines an extraordinarily rich natural, ethnographic and landscape heritage, making the protection of this ecosystem even more vital.
