Train links in Charente Maritime are organised around three main lines :

a North-South line, for the most part made up of the Nantes-Bordeaux route, stopping in the three main agglomerations: La Rochelle, Rochefort and Saintes
two East-West lines, providing a service for the two main towns of the département from the Paris-Tours-Bordeaux main line: Poitiers-La Rochelle in the North, Angoulême-Saintes-Royan in the centre.

From Saujon to La Tremblade: The "Train des Mouettes"
The ‘Train des Mouettes’ is a steam train running the 21 kilometres between La Tremblade and Saujon in Charente-Maritime; it serves the village of Mornac sur Seudre halfway along the route. It provides a great opportunity to discover the open air of the salt marshes, the Charentes countryside and villages of oyster farms, on board picturesque red carriages.
The ‘Train des Mouettes’ offers an enjoyable moment and an original way to discover the Seudre Estuary, the smallest river of France, between land and sea; commentaries on board provide information about the region as well as the history of the steam locomotive and the train line.

On the Ile d’Oléron : The p’tit Train de St-Trojan
Leaving from the Gare de St-Trojan, in the south of the Ile d'Oléron, the "p'tit Train de St-Trojan" (miniature railway) takes you on a 12-km return trip to the wild borders of the Pertuis de Maumusson straits with magnificent landscapes of soft sand and pine forests, inaccessible by road.
