| The Charentes coastline, up to the mouth of the Gironde estuary, is marked out by a number of lighthouses, rather different, both by their geographical position and their construction.
Among them, from North to South, are the Phare des Baleines (Lighthouse of the Whales) on the Ile de Ré, Chassiron Lighthouse on the Ile d’Oléron, La Coubre Lighthouse to the north of the Gironde estuary, then the Cordouan Lighthouse, rising majestically in the very middle of the estuary.
These four lighthouses, veritable guardians of our coasts, are open for visits. Then you just have to climb the steps…
