Traditional practices in Charente Maritime

Ever since the Middle Ages, the local population has used traditional methods to use the resources offered to them by the coast, whether it be oyster farming, mussel rearing or salt farming. There are also fishing techniques that demonstrate specific skill and knowledge, such as the installation of carrelets (fishing huts on stilts) or the construction of fish locks.
