A Coastline to Explore
The Charente coastline and the surrounding islands offer a range of diverse and impressive fortifications, including Fort Boyard, and a few exceptional lighthouses, a unique way for visitors to appreciate even further the environment of the region. It is also the occasion to discover and learn about the myriad of sailing boats that make up the local fleet, both for fishing and pleasure boating.
Traditional Practices
Ever since the Middle Ages, the local population has used traditional methods to use the resources offered to them by the coast, whether it be oyster farming, mussel rearing or salt farming. There are also fishing techniques that demonstrate specific skill and knowledge, such as the installation of carrelets (fishing huts on stilts) or the construction of fish locks.
