The Charente-Maritime offers a wide variety of fish and crustaceans that live and grow in an ideal environment; the deep, calm rivers inland, the steeply scarped coastline and the estuaries are all much appreciated places for fishing. And here there is just one step from sea to table.

Shellfish
|
The most common shellfish found on our coasts, in pools left by the tide, are shrimp, common crab, velvet swimming crab and green crab. More inland, the marshes are rich in Louisiana crawfish.

Fish
|
Sea fishing provides the opportunity to bring back sea bar from the Antioche straits, croakers from the Ile d’Oléron, snappers from the Ile de Ré, conger eels and skate off the coast of La Rochelle and sardines from Royan. In the rivers, roach, bream and bleak abound. The Charente is rich in carp, the Boutonne in pike, and the Dronne in barbel. The Sèvre Niortaise is an ideal place to find perch.
