Flavours and Savours in Charente Maritime
Gastronomy : mojhette, haricot nain blanc en Charente Maritime

The mojhette

The mojhette is a white, rounded variety of dwarf bean, with a fine and pearly skin. This legume with a unique flavour is grown in the marsh zones of Deux-Sèvres and Charente-Maritime, more exactly in the Vallée de l’Arnoult between Rochefort and Marennes.

The mojhette of Pont l’Abbé d’Arnoult

The Vallée de l’Arnoult, a sediment-rich area that was once an arm of the sea, offers around thirty kilometres of fertile marshland. The water invades the land in winter, carrying leaves and humus that enrich the soil and nourish the mojhettes, grown between April and July. The farmers know exactly how to make the most of an environment that gives the legume all its flavour.

A concern for quality

To bring you a consistently tender and tasty legume, the producers are all part of a quality program, guaranteeing a regional product of high quality, traceability and controlled production that respects the environment. The mojhette, easy to cook and prepare, is a delicious yet simple legume.
