The département counts four wetlands.
These marshes are exceptional areas with a specific ecosystem and a unique landscape and ethnographic heritage. They are under permanent surveillance and today are protected sites. They are therefore places to visit with respect.

Poitevin Marsh
The Poitevin Marsh is today an Interregional park. The second largest wetland in France, crossed by the Sèvre Niortaise and a large number of canals, the Poitevin marsh is a magical place. Exploring the ‘Green Venice’ in the middle of the marsh is a rare privilege.
The marshes of Brouage, MoEze and Yves
Spread along the Charente coastline, the marshes of Brouage, Moëze and Yves are managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral. These exceptional natural sites, largely made up of sheltered salt marshes, are wonderful places to appreciate the migration and nesting of a large number of bird species; of note, the unusual presence of white storks in the marshes of Brouage.
