Charron

At the borders of Charente-Maritime and Vendée, Charron is on the edge of the Baie de l’Aiguillon. This commune belongs to the parc interrégional du marais poitevin (Interregional Park of the Poitevin Marsh), and is just 15 minutes from La Rochelle. It is an ideal holiday setting for nature lovers.

Mussels paradise

Charron is a village of those who cultivate the sea. Thanks to an exceptional location where fresh and salt waters meet, and with one of the best sunshine records of the Atlantic front, mussel culture is king. The bouchot mussel – grown on oak poles – is the best known and even has its own brand name - "La Charron”.

In Charron, life follows the rhythm of the tides. A little further up the river from the Port du Pavé or the Port du Corps de Garde, watch the punts (flat-bottomed boats) going out and coming in.
