Oh, shellfish gatherers certainly know how to live well… The pleasure of tasting the shellfish harvested by the sea, paddling at the water’s edge, when the tide goes out revealing its treasures. However shellfish gatherers need to respect this sometimes fragile environment. That is why sand and pebbles must not be removed to look for shellfish without the authorisation of the Affaires Maritimes (Maritime Affairs Authority).
Precautions that need to be taken
Shellfish gatherers need to be careful only to fish what they can eat. All stones that are moved when looking for shellfish must be put back in place so as to protect the microfauna that the food chain is built on. That is why you should avoid walking on rocks covered in shells.
Note too that sanitary and health conditions are monitored the whole time so as to avoid any possible pollution-based incident.
