Kayaks and kayak surfing in Charente Maritime

kayaks and kayak surfing

A kayak is a boat of Eskimo origin. It is a lighter boat than a canoe. The kayaker sits down and uses a double paddle.

A complete sport

Gliding over the water, kayaking combines a sense of adventure, new sensations and discovery of the environment. The choice of boat type is crucial for the desired activity. A sea kayak is comparatively bulky and a lot more stable than its ‘cousin’, the surf kayak, a sort of kayak which – as its name suggests - allows you to surf over the waves. Excitement guaranteed!

Rules to be respected

Sea kayaking is subject to regulations. A kayak is allowed to go up to 300 metres out from an accessible shore. Information about the various dispensations which are possible may be found at:

Quality approach

The Fédération Française de Canoë-Kayak (French Canoe and Kayak Federation) issues the Ecole Française de Canoë-Kayak (French Canoe and Kayak School) quality label to clubs that undertake to follow strictly defined quality criteria.
