The Charente-Maritime offers a very varied environment for horse riders. Keen riders can trot or gallop through forests, past the vineyards, across the marshes or near the coast.
A la carte circuits
The Haute Saintonge, in the south of the département, has many bridle paths. You will find à la carte circuits here depending upon what you want, for the weekend, an itinerant holiday or a halt. Maps of horse riding itineraries will enable you to draw up the circuit of your choice to suit your taste and find your way during your ride.
A very active départemental committee
Every year the Départemental Horse Riding Committee publishes a calendar of equestrian activities that are organised by the various clubs in the departement. It also devotes itself to creating new bridle paths for those who enjoy trekking on horseback.
The Charente-Maritime also hosts national and international competitions, such as the Royan horse-jumping event.
